BOY Writing Sample - Term 1 2018: Zoo Debate
Name: Andrew
Why only endangered animals should be kept in zoos.
PLAN
Non-endangered animals should be kept in their natrual habitats
They need their freedom that zoos aren’t able to give
We can visit natural animals in safaris.
Non-endangered animals can find their own food and hunt.
They wont have to eat what the zoos give them
Endangered animals should be kept in zoos cuz they can get looked after by vets
Endangered animals should be given food by the zoo because they may not be well enough to hunt for their own food. And they don’t have that many mates to help the unwell animals hunt for food
WRITING
Animals that have been kept in zoos, including giraffes, elephants and lions, don’t live their usual lives, but those animals who are endangered can benefit from the vets and hospitals at the zoos.
Animals that aren’t endangered, like fish and some mammals, should be kept in their natural habitats—open, full of food and filled with fresh air—because they can happily roam around, hunt for food and not be forced to live in a terrifying sealed zone. Curious people, including scientists, can still visit these animals by driving their cars into safaries and reserves. This also means these animals that don’t like to be stared at all day can have a place to hide when their feeling shy, and a place to stand when their feeling brave, which would give scientists to find out a bit more about animals. Where theirs a zoo, there is disgusting food for these amazing wild animals, in the wild they won’t have to eat what the zoo gives them.
Endangered animals, such as tuataras and uranitangs, should be brought to the zoo to get taken care of, not only does this allow them to rest for a while if their sick but because the zoo provides food for these animals. When they run out of friends—Who help them when their hurt and depressed— to hunt for them when their sick the zoo can still feed them to keep them alive. Whether an animal is sick or not the nurses, who are trained by other professionals, can treat these endangered animals, who are seeing their friends die, with special medication to help them live longer and reproduce more.
When a zoo sells tickets that might be slightly more expensive, the money could go to purchasing the expensive medicine and hiring nurses. The safari may also make money by only opening the doors when someone pays to go in. This creates more funding for the poor endangered animals. Other animal foundations, like the SPCA could help prevent cruelty to animals in the safaris and stop people from exploiting these animals in cruel ways, like using horse leather for “good quality” leather bags. Whe endangered animals are kept in zoos they are protected from explotation
So now you know why we should only keep endangered animals in the zoo and why we should keep non-endangered animals out of the zoo. I hope I have persuaded you to view this from my point of view. Please only keep endangered animals in zoos and keep non-endangered animals in wild life safaries.
