On the 17th of March, our third day at MiCamp Whakamaru, My camp group, Group C/Pestilence (including ME, Thomas, Tobie, Simon, Kaizad, Sophie, Sophia, Zara, Dyan and Nicole), was getting ready for zip lining which was beside a lake. I was expecting this to be completely terrifying. I was feeling unbalanced because I had just finished climbing the climbing wall.
We had just finished belaying for rock climbing, we were starting to eat delicious chocolate cookies and homemade vanilla cookies. Then we were just running around waiting for the instructor Josh to come and show us what to do. We were playing games like tag. Then when Josh finally came we stopped what we were doing and put on a harness.
Then Josh talked about the responsibilities we had when we were on the ground. Basically, Josh would drop a rope, someone would pick it up and detach a blue rope from the main rope. Then when the person slowed down, the ladder would come in and the blue rope would get attached to the zipline, then the zip line would get pulled up to the top of the tower so the next person could go. Josh asked who wanted to go, Zara had her hand up but Dyan bet her to ziplining down the zip line.
After a while my turn had come, I slowly stepped up the steep creaking steps and found my way up towards the 3rd highest level, I was waiting for the person in front to go. Then I climbed up to the top and attached the karabiners to my harness. I got a bit of a wedgie as I was lifted slightly because I was only 27 kg’s, then I realised I was safe because I was still attached to the tower, it felt uncomfortable but as I slowly walked forward I realised that I felt better without the floor beneath me. Then I want to the other side and climbed down the ladder.
I felt like I hadn’t even been on the zipline yet, it wasn’t even that fun! I learnt that not all zip lines are created even in any respect, for example, most of the ziplines I had been on have a detachable pulley but this one has and undetachable pulley. The zip line didn’t go to the end of the cable! (Most of the ones I have been on crash into suspensions at the end). This zipline wasn’t nearly as thrilling as the other ziplines I have been on!
