Duck Shooting Should be Banned Duck hunters shoot a lot of ducks each year. Duck shooters shoot more than 1 million ducks a year. I believe that we should stop hunting duck as it is cruel. Duck shooting should be banned as 1 million birds are shot every year. Duck hunters spend tons of money a year to buy ammunition and guns, which could be spent on other things. Equipment for duck hunting is hundreds of thousands of dollars. Hans Kriek, a representative from S.A.F.E., said, “When you see how much money they spend on ammunition and guns, you can get a lot of food for that.” The money spent on guns could be better spent on other items. On average, 200,000 ducks are left to die a slow and painful death. After ducks are shot, they cannot move, and so if the shooter does not find the duck, they will die a painful death.“Duck shooting is not a celebration for us, all we can say is thousands of animals being left to die a very slow and very painful death,” said Hans Kriek, an ambassador from S.A.F.E. Over 20% of the 1,000,000 ducks shot every year suffer from a slow and painful death. A lot of native ducks are shot every year. From 12 Metre away, the range of the shotgun used to hunt ducks, it is near impossible to tell if a duck is native or not. “Duck shooters don’t just bring in game birds, we also know again from research in other countries, that a lot of native birds are shot as well,” said Hans Kriek, an ambassador from S.A.F.E. Every native bird we shoot brings that species one step closer to extinction. Duck hunting should be banned. The money spent on guns could easily be spent to prevent ducks from dying painfully.
